Graphing Lines
· There are three different methods to graph a line:
o Table of values:
§ Plot the co-ordinates given in the table and connect the dots
o Slope and y-intercept form:
§ Plot the y-intercept (b value), as (0,b)
§ Use the slope to find the next co-ordinates.
§ Connect the dots.
o Standard form:
§ Find the y-intercept.
§ Find the x-intercept.
§ Connect the dots.
· There are two special lines to be considered when graphing lines:
o Parallel lines
§ These lines never intersect each other.
§ They have the same rate of change (m).
o Perpendicular lines
§ These lines intersect at a 90°.
§ These slopes are the negative reciprocals of each other.
